Where the lion sleeps tonight – a visit at Zoo Schönbrunn
Have you ever wondered why elephants have such long noses and why leopards have some spots? After a project “Just so stories” about wild, exotic animals in our English lessons during which students of class 1C had to find out about habitats and special features of animals, they finally had the chance to see the animals in real at the zoo in Schönbrunn/ Vienna.
During the lessons, students had to read stories by Rudyard Kipling about the elephant and how it got its trunk or how the camel ended up having a hump. Finally they had to do some creative story-writing themselves on how an exotic animal of their choice got a distinct feature. At the zoo the students were supposed to complete a questionnaire on their favourite wild animals` looks and behaviour. After interacting creatively in English surrounded by lions, elephants, polar bears etc., the students proudly reported back to their teachers that learning at the zoo was great fun and that it rounded off our first year of English together – in a delightful way!
