Views of happiness
In our pool session “Views of happiness”, Year 6 students had to touch upon various aspects related to the theme happiness and how we can achieve satisfaction and joy in our lives. The pool lessons were structured as an open learning session during which students were free to select order and time of the tasks outlined in a detailed workplan.
In their group work activities they created mind-maps, looked at poems dealing with nature and how you can be happy there and also learnt about artificial happiness induced by drugs as portrayed in Brave New World. Furthermore, they were encouraged to think about the importance of friendship for the achievement of contentment in life. Materials provided ranged from audio-visual impulses provided on moodle, passages taken from the world of literature as well as topic-related quotations, idioms and metaphors which were supposed to be included in a happiness speech lasting for three minutes. All in all, the students seemed to enjoy our first pool session dedicated to one of the most important aims of our life – the pursuit of happiness! Check on our workplan for details and catch a glimpse of smiling faces in our photographs.
