Model European Parliament Slovenia 2012

Erfolgreicher Eurogym-Parlamentarier berichtet:

Nach erfolgreichem Besuch der nationalen Sitzung im Jänner dieses Jahres und der damit verbundenen Qualifikation für die internationale Session fuhr ich nach Laibach, um dort am Model European Parliament teilzunehmen. Dabei handelt es sich um eine Simulation des Europaparlaments für Jugendliche in englischer Sprache.

Die EU-Länder und 3 Beitrittskandidaten entsenden dabei je 5 Abgeordnete, welche in 10 verschiedenen Komitees die wichtigsten Themen unserer Zeit besprechen, virulente Probleme herausfiltern, gemeinsame Lösungsvorschläge erarbeiten und in einer Resolution zusammenfassen.

Mein Komitee beschäftigte sich mit der Frage der erneuerbaren Energien, der Zukunft von Atomkraft, der endgültigen Entsorgung von atomaren Abfallstoffen und der anzustrebenden  Unabhängigkeit von Energielieferanten außerhalb der EU.

Am Ende der Woche fand die „General Assembly“ statt, in der alle Delegierten  gemeinsam in einem großen Saal jede einzelne Resolution diskutieren und bearbeiten.

Dasjenige Komitee, dessen Resolution bearbeitet wird, nimmt dabei jeweils die Plätze vor der ganzen Versammlung ein. Man beginnt mit den „Factual Questions“, Abgeordnete der General Assembly befragen das Komitee zu einzelnen Textpassagen der Resolution, die eventuell nicht klar sind. Im Anschluss werden Reden pro und contra die Resolution gehalten. Es folgt eine demokratische Abstimmung über den Änderungsvorschlag, das gleiche Prozedere gilt für die Resolution insgesamt. Bei der finalen Abstimmung entscheidet sich somit auch, ob die Resolution an das Europäische Parlament weitergereicht wird, oder eben nicht.

Now it is high time to switch to the language I generally used to communicate with the people from all over Europe as well as to contribute actively to the discussions in my committee.

 It is beyond any doubt that my stay in Slovenia was one of the most outstanding, most fascinating and almost most interesting experiences I have made in my life so far.

On the one hand, I found friends in whole Europe; in other words, the socializing, on the whole, was pretty awesome. All the people were so nice, friendly and cool. I had so much fun with them during the committee sessions but also while going out in the evenings.

On the other hand, it is a great feeling to familiarize yourself with European politics, because you know that now you’ve got the chance to change something, to make a difference, and to contribute your own ideas. I would even go as far as to say that it’s an unforgettable experience to sit in the general assembly, in the front of all the other delegates coming from 30 states and to explain and defend the points given in your resolution.

To finish off, I admit being a little proud of myself. At this point it is worth mentioning that the hard work of our committee has been officially requited by becoming the best resolution of this year`s Model European Parliament.

Last but not least, let me point out that  if you  are ever given the chance to be one of the few people that are able to take part in this wonderful project, I do urge you to take this chance and give your best. I also had some doubts before I went to the National Session, but, if you are well prepared, there are no reasons for doubts! Just seize the chance and face the challenge, you will never regret it!
