CLIL- Part 2: “Our Four-legged Friends“ – a cross-curricular approach: English and Biology
After our first exciting experiences with CLIL(Content and Language Integrated Learning ) as an interesting and enriching learning process in class 1A in January, we, Mag. Rowena Hametner (English) and Mag. Küllinger (Biology) decided to give it another try!
This time we thought - why not combine English and Biology in miraculous and unexpected ways. Therefore students applied their vocabulary related to pets, which they had acquired in English, to revise and study words, to take quizzes, to have a closer look at famous film pets etc. and to, finally, come up with their own, impressive pet biographies. For the faster students we provided extra-tasks like writing a pet poem or interactive word quizzes. The creative output was amazing and confirmed once more that students sometimes need and enjoy a double-challenge, in this case – English and Biology – to achieve stunning results and to marvel at incredible outcomes! Thus CLIL will remain an approach to be continued - soon!
